LSU Women's Basketball Star Angel Reese Declares for 2024 WNBA Draft
Reese Selected Seventh Overall by Chicago Sky
Departure Leaves LSU with Big Hole to Fill
LSU women's basketball star Angel Reese has officially declared for the 2024 WNBA draft, despite having one year of eligibility remaining at the collegiate level. The 21-year-old forward was selected by the Chicago Sky with the seventh overall pick in the draft, which was held in New York on Wednesday, April 15, 2024.
Reese, a two-time All-American and the reigning SEC Player of the Year, led LSU to a 26-8 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 this past season. She averaged 23.8 points and 13.9 rebounds per game in her junior season, making her one of the most dominant players in the country.
"I've accomplished everything I can at LSU," Reese said in a statement released after the draft. "I'm ready for the next challenge and I'm excited to join the Chicago Sky." Reese's departure leaves a big hole in the LSU roster, but coach Kim Mulkey is confident that the team can still be successful next season. "Angel is a great player and she'll be missed," Mulkey said. "But we have a lot of talented players on this team and I'm excited about what we can accomplish next season."
