Aethlon Medical Inc. Granted Full Ethics Approval
AEMD - A Medical Therapeutic Company Focused on Developing Cancer Treatments
San Diego, Calif. - June 12, 2024 - Aethlon Medical Inc. (AEMD), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing innovative treatments for cancer and rare diseases, today announced that the Bellberry Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) has granted full ethics approval to the Pindara Private Hospital in Australia to conduct a Phase 2 clinical trial of Aethlon's lead product candidate, Hemopurifier.
The Pindara Private Hospital is a leading private hospital in Australia, with a strong track record in conducting clinical trials. The Bellberry HREC is an independent ethics committee that reviews and approves research proposals to ensure that they meet ethical standards.
"We are very pleased to have received full ethics approval from the Bellberry HREC," said Dr. William A. Colmers, Aethlon's President and CEO. "This is an important milestone in the development of Hemopurifier, and we look forward to working with the Pindara Private Hospital to initiate the Phase 2 clinical trial."
The Phase 2 clinical trial is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Hemopurifier in patients with advanced solid tumors. The trial will enroll approximately 100 patients at multiple sites in Australia.
Hemopurifier is a novel therapeutic device that uses a patient's own blood to remove circulating tumor cells (CTCs). CTCs are rare cells that are shed by tumors and can travel through the bloodstream. Hemopurifier is designed to capture and remove CTCs, thereby reducing the number of tumor cells in the body and potentially slowing or stopping tumor growth.
"We are excited to be a part of this important clinical trial," said Dr. Geoffrey A. Pieters, Director of Medical Oncology at the Pindara Private Hospital. "Hemopurifier has the potential to be a major breakthrough in the treatment of cancer, and we are eager to see the results of this study."
